Minerals are just as important as Water

Monday, June 28th, 2010

My last post I talked about drinking enough water so to follow on with this vein of thought it is important to get minerals as well.

If you are exercising and feel thirsty then you are already dehydrated and your electrolytes are out of balance.

You should always hydrate before and during exercise to maintain a good level throughout to avoid unnecessary stress on the body.

I mentioned in my last post that it was not good to drink more than 3 litres of water a day, the reason for this is you will flush out your minerals and become mineral deficient.

Many health conditions are a result of mineral deficiencies like high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and arthritis.

Sodium, chloride and potassium are all electrolytes and play a huge role in keeping the fluid of the body balanced.

Salt is a very important mineral in the body we must have salt to live, our tears, sweat and all the fluids in our body are salty including the brain and spinal fluids.

The word electrolyte means they carry a electrical charge in water, they can move in and out of the cell to transport nutrients and remove waste, as well as water to keep the fluid balance.

They also carry electrical impulses along the nerve pathways which helps the muscles to contract and relax. Not only the skeletal muscles but the heart and diaphragm as well.

Electrolytes are also responsible for carrying glucose (blood sugar)into the cell after insulin opens the gate to allow the glucose in.

Our bones are not only calcium but also salt crystals are woven in with the calcium, and this is what makes the bones hard. When the body needs more salt than is present it can borrow some from the bones but unfortunately when the salt is drawn out of the bones it takes the calcium with it. This makes the bones thin and brittle and osteoporosis develops.

Many Dr.’s put there patients on a low-salt diet but in fact they need the opposite, but the type of salt is the most important aspect here.

Table salt is purified by removing the trace mineral [ where this crazy idea came from I don't know] and heating the salt to 1200 degrees F. Now what is left is 40% sodium and 60% chloride, then a anti-caking agent is added.

Salt is sodium chloride and is not assimilated well by the body it helps to raise blood pressure and clogs up the arteries causing heart disease.

Table salt is not a good option, nature provides salt with minerals and trace minerals attached [ it stand to reason that we need these as well as salt] the best way to get them is in an organic salt like sea salt and himalayan salt.

Adding a 1/8 tsp of organic salt to your water will help to get your minerals, you can also add to your food.

But you can also drink a large class of pure water and then put a pinch of sea salt on the tip of the tongue and allow it to dissolve.

Kelp or any sea vegetable is also a good source of minerals and can be added to you diet very easily by sprinkling on you salad.

Concentrated mineral drops are another great option, I use these, you can get them  in a health shop.  Follow the instructions on the bottle.

Green smoothies are a great way to keep you mineral reserve up, dark leafy green vegetables are very high in minerals, which are released when you blend them.

This is a delicious drink that will give you an abundance of energy.

Don’t just take my word for it check out what Dr. Batmanghelidj has to say about water. http://www.watercure.com/

I dare you to try this recipe.

Basic Green Smoothie (for one)

1 apple

1 kiwifruit

1 banana

200 ml of water

1 ½ cups of fresh well washed spinach (or any other dark leafy green vegetable)

2 pitted dates (optional)

Peel and chop kiwifruit and apple, place with the rest of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy.

Water! Do we drink enough?

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

I find hard in the colder months is to drink enough water.

I am just not inclined to drink cold water, I’m drawn to the warmer drinks like herbal teas and miso.

Although these are good options I noticed that I was getting

dehydrated and had to force myself to drink more water.

You just don’t get as thirsty in the winter as you do in the summer.

It isn’t difficult to get dehydrated in the winter as the cold can

be very drying to the body as well and the skin. Have you noticed that your skin is

more dry in the winter than in the summer.

A good way to check if you are hydrated enough is to do the test on the back of your

hand.

Just pinch a piece of skin between the thumb and index finger, hold for second and

then let if go. The skin should immediately return to normal, if it doesn’t and the

skin appears to take some time to flatten

out then you are dehydrated and need to drink more water.

Another way to tell is by your urine, it should be almost clear

and have no or very little odor. Our bodies will produce strong urine when

it doesn’t have enough fluid so if you can smell it then you

need to drink more.

Water should stay in our body for 2-3 hours the body will take what it needs and

then the water goes to the kidneys for excretion.

If you find that you are getting tired in the daytime and find it

hard to concentrate then you are dehydrated.

We need a lot more water than we realize, imagine a plump grape hanging on the

vine this is a hydrated cell, then visualize a sultana this is a dehydrated cell.

Some suggestions on how to get the water in are;

Get a 500 ml bottle preferably glass, this makes it easy to

calculate.

Drink a whole bottle first thing in the morning before breakfast.

Also last thing at night.

Try to get another one in during the day.

Squeeze some lemon juice or grate fresh ginger in the water

to flavor it.

Try drinking hot water and lemon and or ginger instead of a

coffee or tea.

Your body is made up of 70 to 80% of water and in order to

maintain that level you need to consume 1.5 to 2 Litres of

water a day.

Coffee or tea are not included in this calculation, they are

diuretics which dehydrate the body.

I can hear you now thinking I will  be on the toilet all day and

night if I drink that much water. Well yes you will go to the

bathroom a bit more initially but this will pass in less than a

week and you will find that you are more alert much clearer

in the head.

90% of headaches are due to dehydration, dry skin is due

to dehydration, constipation is often caused by dehydration,

brain fag is due to dehydration, in fact most health conditions

can be improved by just drinking more water.

Now that is a lot cheaper than a whole lot of supplements.

Who would believe that simple water could make you feel so good, it can lower your

blood pressure hence improving cardiovascular heath.  Help you concentrate, get rid

of that annoying headache and increase the fluid retention in the skin as well as

keep the bowel working well.

If that is not a good enough reason to drink more water then I don’t know what is.

So go on go get a large glass of water and drink it.

PS do not drink more than 3 litres of water a day, too much can flush out  vital

minerals.

Cleansing by Fasting

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

I fast at least once a year as I enjoy the cleansing  feeling that it gives me, not only my body but also my mind. I feel de-cluttered mind wise after a fast. This passed week I have been on a fast with some friends of mine.

I wish to share some of our experiences during this time. It’s not exceptionally radical, it consist of 3 lead in days then the fasting days,  3 lead out days.

The 4 others that came on the fast with me had never fasted before, so it was great to hear all there positive experiences as we progressed through.

We got together on the first evening (Friday)and spent some time  sharing our reasons for doing the cleanse.

We all had different goals and expectations. TW was give up smoking, GF wanted to detoxify in order to lose weight, SF was wanting to kick start a new rawfood lifestyle and RC wanted to do a detox,  I needed to cleanse.

We met again on the Sunday to make a big pot of Broth which everyone contributed some vegetables too. This being the third day, we had our last solid meal at lunch time on that day.

We all got around the island in my kitchen and chopped up 5 onions, 2 cabbages, 6 capsicums, 3 chillies, a large bag of spinach and 18 potatoes. Fitting all these vegetable into my 2 large pots was a challenge, then GF chomped into his thumb instead of the potato.

In between trying to stop the bleeding finger I added lots of herbs and spices to the broth.

The broth took another hour or so to cook and we settled down to a game of Rummy O, which some of us had never played before. I won the game even though I was flitting from game to stirring soup and tasting.

To everyones horror I stained off the vegetables to be discarded (feed to my chickens) and divided all the liquid broth among the 5 of us, we ended up with 2 litres each.

The fast lasted for three days, then we had our lead out days.

It was amazing how everyone had similar  and some individuals experiences.

Most of us did some kind of cleaning I cleaned out all my draws in my bedroom and in the kitchen.

RC dragged out all her stuff she had stored, she sorted and discarded what was no longer wanted, she did this until 3 am then proceeded to continue the next day to de-clutter her life of all the things that she had been holding on to for unwarranted reasons.

SF cleaned out her office, TW who gave up smoking wanted to wash everything mainly to remove the stale smoke smells that were lingering.

This is often a common occurrence when you clean on the inside you have the desire to clean on the outside.

Most of us were waking early and feeling energy to burn, I went with GF for a 35 km ride on the Saturday and for 52 km on Sunday, I was a bit shattered after that though.

SF wanted to get out and exercise, due to lack of motivation she had not been doing any for several months.

RC and I had been attending Buddhist meditation classes, we found more clarity in our meditation. I found everything was easier to understand, it all made sense all of a sudden.

TW had the desire to curl up and keep warm with a good book, she found it better to hibernate.

GF had the most interesting experience of all, he discovered he had gallstones when he had a gallbladder attack. This was very painful and unfortunate for him. However on a positive note he can now remove them from his body.

This just goes to show how powerful a fast can be. The idea of fasting is to give the digestive system a break and allow the body to do some healing. This is exactly what happened with GF his body decided it was time to cleanse the gallbladder.

Some of us felt a bit cold near the end of the fast. We all lost weight, some as much as 3.7 kg, but most of us around 3 kg.

We all had a lightness and feeling of well being. Everyone found that they were not hungry at all, some reported to have missed the chewing process.

So the fast had a positive result for everyone, we are all happy with the results.

This is the cheapest detox you can do. You don’t need to spend money on detox kits.

You just use the best organic fruits and vegetables available and you can cleanse your body and mind over an 8 day period and feel great.

Best results when you plan the process, do it with others as then you aren’t feeling isolated.

If you want to do a fast, then email me and I will send you the fasting protocol, it isn’t hard but important you follow the instructions. Should you suffer from chronic illness you should consult  a naturopath before fasting.

Synthetic Verses Natural Vitamins

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Vitamin C,  we need this nutrient to prevent scurvy, it is abundant in most fruits and vegetables especially citrus fruits, kiwifruit and blackcurrants.

Vitamin C supports the immune system, fights cancer and many other numerous health conditions.

But Vitamin C is not Ascorbic acid.

Not all vitamins are created equal.

Most supplements on the market contain ascorbic acid and they call it vitamin C.

Vitamin C was discovered in the 1930s by Dr Albert Szebt-Gyorgyi, his understanding of the chemical structure of the vitamin C made it possible to reproduce in a laboratory.

Unfortunately only nature can produce vitamin C that our bodies will utilize to the maximum, the synthetic variety doesn’t work the same.

Ascorbic acid is harsh on the gut, is not readily bio-available to the body like a natural vitamin C that comes in a fruit or vegetable. The body will absorb and utilize all of the natural vitamin C

The recommended daily allowance of a synthetic vitamin C is 3000 mg (3 gm) for average person, to be taken 1000 mg  3 times a day, this is because the body can only absorb so much at a time and it dumps the rest.

Some say that you can go up to 9000 mg or until you get diarrhea.

This is a warning sign that has flashing lights so take notice.

Getting diarrhea well this is interesting, the body is trying to tell you something?

Observed under a microscope natural vitamin C  varies greatly from ascorbic acid. The particles are just as different as chalk and cheese.

Our bodies only absorb small amounts of synthetic nutrients and dump the rest. (waste of money in my opinion) Have you ever noticed the yellow/orange colour of your urine after taking a vitamin pill.

Well yes that is the body rejecting the unused vitamins. They just go straight through the system, and down the toilet.

Using synthetic vitamins can show results initially but they then stop working, and the condition worsens. Why  is this?

The best source of vitamin C is to eat lots of fresh raw fruits and vegetables daily.

There are also now natural vitamin c capsules available by Lifestream and Premier Research Laboratories.

Vitamin D is getting a lot of press lately, deficiency in vitamin D is on the rise. It is responsible for aiding the absorption of calcium, a vital nutrient for bones.

Vitamin D a fat-soluble vitamin is found in very few foods, egg yokes, cod liver oil, cold water fish like salmon, mackerel, herring and sardine. Vegetables although are a low source of vitamin D; the best sources are dark green leafy vegetables.

We get Vitamin D  from  sunlight exposure. But this isn’t the end of the story vitamin D obtained from food source and sunlight is biologically inert and must undergo two hydroxylations in the body for activation.

The liver and kidneys are involved, should these be compromised in any way Vitamin D synthesis doesn’t occur. Get the full story in my monthly newsletter.

Using sunscreen blocks vitamin D  synthesis. I recommend that you don’t apply the sunscreen until you have been in the sun for at least 10 to 15 minutes in this way you will have absorbed some vitamin D.

Also it is not enough to just expose you face, expose the arms and legs as well to get more of a surface cover to get the levels up.

Now should you need to supplement with Vitamin D I suggest that you use a natural sourced product. Not a synthetic form, Cod liver oil, chlorella are good sources of natural form of vitamin D.

Should you need vitamin D to fight chronic disease then I suggest Premier Research Laboratries D3 serum. This is a practitioner product and you will need get it through my clinic.

If you are interested in learning more about Vitamin D and get the full story sign up for my free newsletter, you can unsubscribe at any time.

Through the winter months I suggest that you make green smoothies with spinach and kale or silverbeet.

They are easy to make you only need a blender, they are delicious an even the kids will love them. They are high in minerals and electrolytes not to mention energy.

Basic Green Smoothie (for one)

1 apple

1 kiwifruit

1 banana

200 ml of water

1 ½ cups of fresh well washed spinach (or any other dark leafy green vegetable)

2 pitted dates (optional)

Peel and chop kiwifruit and apple, place with the rest of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy.

Will my teeth make it until I’m 100 years?

Monday, April 19th, 2010

I went to see my Dentist today, and $200 lighter but I feel great.

Since becoming a raw food eater I have had to be more aware of taking real good care of my teeth.

Firstly I intend to eat raw food for the rest of my life which I estimate will be around 46 years.  (that will make me 100) I need to be able to chew all these years, you can’t chew raw vegetables without any teeth.

Secondly I eat a lot of fruit and the natural sugars and acids can play havoc with your teeth.

When I was younger I was quite slack about dental hygiene, I always cleaned my teeth every day but I didn’t bother to floss and I have had quite a few cavities.

In recent years I have become very precious about my teeth as I like to smile a lot  and if my teeth didn’t look good I could not do this.

I have become more ritualistic about cleaning them more often and using the best cleaning method available.

I’m in the Baby Boomer generation and in New Zealand the dental nurses at the schools had a great time drilling out the centre of every tooth in my head with any tiny little caries they could find. In some of my teeth there is more filling than tooth.

Subsequently I have a mouthful of mercury amalgam fillings. I am not alone in this everyone of similar age and went through the school system in NZ will have the same problem, no wonder we  have a large number of people suffering from conditions generated from heavy metal toxic overload.

I am up for approximately 2,500 to 3,000 dollars to remove and replace these fillings. But I believe it will be worth every cent for my health is everything.

They are still doing it to our children today, the government are very aware of the toxic elements leaching into our bodies but won’t ban it, it just gets put in to the too hard basket.

Any way I am getting a bit off tract here, that is a complete story on its own. Back to the cleaning systems available, many toothpastes contain toxic substances like fluoride and sodium lauryl sulphate.

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) is an irritant and a highly dangerous chemical that has many links to cancer, it cannot be metabolised by the liver and it will therefore stays in the body longer. It is also linked to ulcers and canker sores.

It is a degreaser and is particularly  good and  highly effective surfactant, used in any task requiring the removal of oily stains and residues. SLS is found in higher concentrations with industrial products including engine degreasers, floor cleaners, and car wash soaps.

So why is it in our personal care products like soap, shampoo and toothpaste?

I don’t want to put a degreaser into my body, anything that comes in contact with the mucus membranes of the mouth will enter my body quick smart.

In fact I will not use any product on the surface of my body that contains any of the SLS’es and there are 150 different names and types of SLS they are all unwanted in our bodies.

I don’t want fluoride in my body either as it is a toxic substance that also can’t be metabolized and remains in the system.

The government in NZ saw fit to add fluoride to our water supplies in some cities, I can’t get my head around that. Thankfully I live in Napier where it wasn’t added, but 16 km away in Hastings as well as our capital city of Wellington it is.

There is no real evidence that fluoride stops cavities in teeth.

For this reason I have been developing my own tooth cleaning system, I would like to share this with others so I will be launching my new “Tooth Scrub” very soon.

It is designed clean the teeth, prevent tarter build up as well as support healthy gums.

It is Chemical Free and is made from completely natural substances, has no added free flowing agents or fillers. No Toxic Substances.

I am in the trial process at the moment, if you live in NZ and are interested in trying my new product get in touch; raelle@natures-spectrum.com and I will send you a sample.

My Dentist is great by the way, it didn’t hurt a bit, amalgam removal is one of her specialized services. She is very conscious of the toxic concerns when removing amalgams and uses dams.

Should you wish to know more about her, email me for her details.

I would be interested to know of others opinions on the amalgam fillings. If you have an opinion leave a comment.

Have a great day and smile lots.

Is It a Fruit Or Vegetable?

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Combining fruits and vegetables is it a No No or Ok?

Well this is a good question and I get it all the time, people say but aren’t you not supposed to combine fruit with vegetables. You read in the books that it is not good to combine these two.

The next question comes to mind is, what is a vegetable and what is a fruit? Could we be confusing fruits with vegetables.

When I thought about this for a while, I came up with a fruit grows on a tree or a vine.

Vegetables grow in the ground and are tubers like a carrot or parsnip.

But then you have the green leafy vegetable like cabbage and spinach as well as flower type like broccoli and artichokes etc.

So what is a fruit?  Are tomatoes a fruit, I say yes.
Capsicums and chillies are they fruits, I also say yes.
What about cucumbers, zucchini and pumpkin they all grow on a vine are they fruits? Well maybe they are fruits not vegetables.

Broccoli and cauliflower are flowers and so are artichokes, they are a category all of there own, are they fruits or vegetables?
I think they may come under fruits. What do you think?

Spinach, Kale, lettuce are all green leaf vegetables and are another category, I think of these as foliage.

Then there is the root vegetables that are the tubers or rhizomes, like potatoes, kumura, swede, beetroot etc. These are definitely vegetables.

I put into my  smoothies both raw fruits and vegetables, I don’t have trouble digesting them.

The foliage works very well with the fruit, even monkeys will wrap a piece of fruit in a leaf and eat it. If they do it by instinct then it must be Ok. Our digestive systems are the closet to primates.

Green smoothies contain fruits and green foliage and they are digested very easily to create an abundance of energy.

Apple carrot and ginger make a very nice juice and here we have 2 root vegetables and one fruit.

Avocado goes very well with broccoli and cauliflower as well as green leafy salad.

I think that putting fresh raw fruits and vegetables together is fine.

If you are having trouble digesting any combination then you should look at the gut integrity to determine whether this could be compromised, or that some intolerance’s may have been developed due to this compromise. Eating these foods raw will help to correct any gut issues.

Is it important as to whether it is fruit or a vegetable, I think not really, if it works together for flavor and digestion what is the problem.

SURVEY SHOWS PARENTS WORRY ABOUT VACCINES

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

For Your Information
I am posting this to get more awareness of public opinions of vaccines. I found it interesting.

From WebMD Health News
SURVEY SHOWS PARENTS WORRY ABOUT VACCINES
Jennifer Warner
March 3, 2010

Most parents believe vaccination is a good way to protect their
children from potentially deadly diseases, but a new survey shows more
than half still worry about the possibility of vaccine side effects.
The study shows 88% of parents follow the child immunization schedule
recommended by their doctor, but 54% are concerned about serious
vaccine side effects. Although parents overwhelmingly share the belief
that vaccines are a good way to protect their children from disease,
these same parents express concerns regarding the potential adverse
side effects and especially seem to question the safety of newer
vaccines,” write researcher Gary L. Freed, MD, MPH of the department
of pediatrics and communicable diseases at the University of Michigan
in Ann Arbor, and colleagues in Pediatrics.
Researchers say parents who are concerned about vaccine side effects
are less likely to vaccinate their children. In fact, the study showed
one in every eight parents has refused at least one vaccine
recommended by their child’s physician.
Newer vaccines, such as varicella, meningococcal conjugate, and HPV
(human papillomavirus) were more likely to be refused than older
vaccines like the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella vaccine).
In the study, researchers surveyed 1,552 parents about their attitudes
regarding vaccines. Overall, 90% of parents said vaccines were a good
way to protect their children from disease, and 88% said they
generally do what their doctors say regarding vaccination.
However, the results show that despite a lack of scientific evidence
supporting a link between autism and vaccinations, more than one in
five parents continue to believe that some vaccines cause autism in
healthy children.
Women were more likely than men to believe some vaccines cause autism,
to be concerned about vaccine side effects, and to have ever refused a
vaccine recommended for their children by a doctor.
The study also showed that Hispanic parents were more likely than
white or African-American parents to say they followed their doctor’s
recommended immunization schedule and less likely to have ever refused
a vaccine. But Hispanic parents were also more likely to believe in a
link between autism and vaccinations and be concerned about vaccine
side effects.
“Although information is available to address many vaccine safety
concerns, such information is not reaching parents in an effective or
convincing manner,” write the researchers. “Continued high childhood
immunization rates will be at risk if current safety concerns are not
addressed effectively and increase in the future, resulting in more
parents refusing vaccines.”

Realising your potential

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Today this blog is about ways to help you overcome the disadvantages that may be holding you back from realizing your potential

Let us just look at one of the most common disadvantages DISEASE.
So what is disease?

Disease is interrupted health or an imbalanced state of health.

How do we get disease?

Disease starts with either a Trauma, Accident or Emotional disturbance,

An example of a accident/trauma, you are injured on the rugby field. When healed your get back out on the field the injury gets knocked repeatedly you continue to have trouble because it is weak. Several years later you could develop arthritis in that knee.

Emotional disturbance, you get bullied at school, other children tell you your a geek, your a very sensitive type, you don’t tell your parents they might think that your weak. You just shut it up inside and it eats at you, you start to believe that you are a geek, several years later you develop Ulcerative Colitis. An ulcer is self eating self.

Of course many other factors are involved such as viral, bacterial influences as well that determine disease on a individual basis.

WHAT IS HEALTH?
Most would agree that “Health is a state of mind and being where you are free of physical mental and emotional disadvantages”.

So what holds us in a state of health?

I’m healthy because I feel healthy, I live a healthy lifestyle and I believe that I’m healthy.
So am I healthy ? YES I AM. Why? because I believe that I am in a healthy state of being and mind.
So what makes me healthy is the desire to be healthy.

So what keeps us in a state of health or state of disease?

Could it be that we are where we are because that is where we “THINK“ we should be consciously or subconsciously? Most definitely.

So how do we change this should we need to?

What I am saying to you today is “ no matter what state of health or disease you are in today it isn’t permanent, you can change it”.

I am who and what I want to be, and you to can be who and what you want to be as well.

If you want to be healthy then you need to believe you can be healthy.

There are three easy steps to the process of empowerment

Step 1. Define what you want your life and health to be like.

Step 2. Believe that you can have this and that you deserve it.

Step 3. Start to act like you already have it.

Now surely it can’t be that simple, but really it is.

Once you define your desired health status, you need only visualize yourself being healthy and it will come, your mind doesn’t understand the difference between visualization and reality.

Extensive Studies have be done in this area of research, they discovered that when training for an event that if you visualise yourself training it can be just as beneficial as the actual training.

Train your mind to think health and bring it on.
Believe that you can be healthy and then start to live like you are healthy.

You will need to make and plan this journey in a way that suits you on an individual basis and make the rules and plan the steps at your pace.

But don’t forget to celebrate every milestone along the way. Gratitude is everything.

You have only but to REALISE YOU POTENTIAL.

This process can be applied to any issue or disadvantage you may be experiencing, the principle is the same.

Be thoughtful and careful what comes out of your mouth, since with those words you create your reality.

If you enjoyed this post and want to learn more about creating your reality sign up for my newsletter for more on this subject.

Swine Flu

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Well there is quite a lot of talk about he swine flu in the media you can not turn on the news without it being the main headline. I would like to comment on this and give you my views on the Swine Flu. I feel that we should be cautious about getting into a panic about the pandemic that is being hearing about.

To start with we haven’t had any deaths in NZ from swine flu yet, although there are more cases being  detected daily I suggest don’t panic. Hundreds of people every year die during the winter months from the flu they are mostly the elderly and immune compromised. I think that the best action that we can take to prevent ourselves from contracting the swine flu is to boost our immune systems.

If you are eating a high percentage of raw food then your immune system is already in good shape. If you keep your stress levels down and don’t over do it, like burning the candle at both ends, or late nights and drinking copious amounts of stimulants such as alcohol and coffee, instead of raw food then you will not be compromising your immune system. Further I would suggest that you take some herbs to boost your immunity and increase the odds against you getting it, should you be exposed to someone that has swine flu.

Some to these herbs are Garlic, Echinacea and Olive leaf extract.

Garlic is a natural antibiotic and will knock over the flu in high doses on it own. Taking a garlic capsule every day will keep all colds and flu away. I have taken one every day for 10 years and I just don’t get the flu. If you do get some flu symptoms then I suggest that you take 2 capsules 3 times a day and rest. This will get you back on your feet in 48 hours.

Echinacea is a well known herb to boost the immune system. It can be taken in capsules or in liquid form, but it is not good to take continuously I suggest that you take it for 6 weeks and then stop for 2 weeks. It can be then taken again for another 6 weeks. Should you get flu symptoms then taking Echinacea at the onset at the recommended dose will shorten the time of symptoms.

Olive Leaf extract is a great option to take during the winter months it is anti-viral and can really boost the immune system. Olive leaf also comes in capsules for convenience but the extract is better. It is always best where possible to take herbs in liquid form they are absorbed quicker and should your gastrointestinal tract be compromised in any way you may not breakdown the capsule as well and not receive full benefit of the herb.

So eat lots of raw food and take some herbs if you are concerned about your immune system. The more raw food you eat the healthier you will become, the less likely chance you will contract the swine flu if you are exposed.

The strain that we are experiencing in NZ is a mild form so  being prepared for the flu outbreak is always going to be a good idea, but once again don’t go panicking. I suggest that should you develop any flu symptoms that don’t pass in 48 hours using the suggestions above go and get a swab and then make an appointment with myself or  another homeopath for homeopathic treatment. If this is not possible then Naturapharm Flu-guard or Weleda Influenzium are good options. But an individualized consult and remedy choice is the best way to treat any influenza.

During the 1918 Influenza Epidemic Homeopathy proved to be the best treatment and saved many lives.

“Homeopathic treatment is likely to be an effective treatment for any new flu-like illness. Homeopathic hospitals had a less than 1% mortality rate during the last major real pandemic -1918 Spanish Flu epidemic, while conventional hospitals had between 30 and 60% mortality rates. For additional statistics on homeopathic treatment and the 1918 epidemic”
